​ASU Sports Law & Business Full Court Press Symposium

April 2017
On the morning of the 2017 Final Four, the ASU Sports Law & Business Program gathered a handful of the most prominent collegiate athletic leaders in the country to discuss the role of media in intercollegiate athletics, the legislative power of the autonomy conferences, and the overall future of college sports. Moderators included Prof. Glenn Wong and Abraham Madkour, Executive Editor of the Sports Business Journal.

While in Phoenix for the NFL Owners' Meetings in March 2017, ASU Law alumnus and currently Chicago Bears Chairman George McCaskey gave a Q&A at the Beus Center for Law and Society (moderated by Prof. Wong) on the law, business, and current issues facing the NFL.

Visiting Phoenix in advance of the 2017 Final Four, NCAA SVP of Basketball Dan Gavitt stopped by ASU Law to discuss the state of college basketball and the logistics of coordinating a massive sports event.

Arizona State University College of Law and Sports Lawyers Association Outreach Panel - Regulatory Issues in Professional Sports

As part of outreach efforts by the Sports Lawyers Association, the Sports Law & Business Program hosted the General Counsels of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns, and Arizona Coyotes to discuss regulatory issues their clubs face. Prof. Glenn Wong moderated the discussion.

Amateur Hour: The Commercialization of College Athletics

On Wednesday, April 18th the Association of Diversity in Sport hosted "Amateur Hour:  The Commercialization of College Athletics."  UMass Professor Glenn Wong hosted a panel discussion that featured journalist Kevin Blackistone, Jackie Campbell of the NCAA and economist and Smith professor Andrew Zimbalist.  The panelists touched on topics that included conference realignment, illegal benefits for students, the overspending of athletic departments, and academic eligibility and what that means for the student-athlete.

Earlier that afternoon, Jackie Campbell, NCAA Director of Division I spoke in Professor Glenn Wong’s graduate “College Athletics” class.  Campbell spoke about reform legislation, governance, the new academic eligibility rules and the structure of the NCAA.     

​How to Make it in the Sports Industry
February 28, 2012

On Tuesday, February 28th the McCormack Department of Sport Management student organization Association of Diversity in Sport (ADS) sponsored an evening speaker event with Professor Glenn Wong entitled “How to Make it in the Sports Industry.” During his talk Professor Wong provided students with 12 essential rules for success derived from his book, The Comprehensive Guide to Careers in Sports.  The event was highlighted with a Skype call from UMass alum and Managing Director at NASCAR, John Martin.

Richard Ensor Class Visit
February 15, 2012
Richard J. Ensor, Commissioner of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), was a guest speaker at Isenberg School of Management’s graduate-level “College Athletics” class on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. He is a graduate (MS ‘83) and former faculty member (1986-1988) of the Sport Management program at UMass. Rich has been Commissioner of the MAAC since 1988, and covered many topics during his visit. They included college athletics, conferences, event management, NCAA governance, and careers in sport.
